Frequently Asked Questions
Can either rider steer a Blackbird Bike?
Yes. All models offer co-captian steering allowing either rider to pilot the vehicle. A fixed steering option is also available as an adaptive feature.
Do both riders have to pedal all the time?
No. The dual-drive allows people with different physical abilities or energy levels to ride together with either rider generating from 0 to 100 percent of the pedal power. Cyclists can ride together while each person pedals at their own pace.
How do people use a Sociable Tandem?
Blackbird Bikes are designed for two people of different physical or visual abilities to ride together. They are ideal for adult riders with a child. They stand out in the crowd for parades and charity events. Blackbird Bikes are used as rental cycles, environmentally- friendly taxis, and as moving billboard advertisements for businesses. All that, and still perfect for everyday biking.
Is adaptive equipment available for special needs riders?
Yes. We've specifically designed adaptive options for physically challenged riders and special needs adventurers. Children, teens, and adults with special needs can enjoy a Blackbird Bike using adaptive accessories like chest level seat belts, toe clips and pedal connectors to engage weak muscles. Let us know what you need.
Can I ride a Blackbird Bike alone?
Yes. You can ride the sociable tandem alone with caution. If you are driving from the left side be sure to slow down making right hand turns so you don't get the quad bike up on two wheels.
Can I separate a Blackbird Bike into two bikes?
Yes. All the models can be separated into two independent bikes for solo riding, easy transport, or off season storage.
Are the seats adjustable?
